Apple Season

With all of the amazing fall fun in Colorado comes APPLE SEASON! During a Spanish lesson, Miss Leslie helped the students learn some new vocabulary while creating a delicious afternoon snack - Apple Empanadas!

You can easily make these at home! Miss Leslie used frozen pastry sheets and added apples, cinnamon, and a bit of butter. Then she baked them until they were golden brown and delicious!
Happy Apple Picking!

Signs of Fall - Fun Harvest in Colorado

We are studying signs of Fall at Harmony. We will be taking walks to enjoy the weather and beauty and bringing plenty of pumpkins and apples into the classroom. Although we will not be taking any field trips for this theme, we are so lucky to be in Colorado to see the leaves change colors and have farms right in our own back yards to experience harvest and the flavors that are associated with autumn. There are so many pumpkin patches and u-pick farms in Colorado to enjoy with your preschooler! Here are just a few that are nearby that perhaps you will be able to visit:

Berry Patch Farms is a u-pick farm in Brighton
Cottonwood Farms is a pumpkin patch right here in Boulder
Anderson Farms is a pumpkin patch in Erie
Munson Farms is a pumpkin patch also in Boulder
Rocky Mountain Pumpkin Ranch is full of fall fun in Longmont
Rock Creek Farms is also a super fun fall activities in Broomfield
The Boulder and Longmont Farmers Market is also a great place to experience fall flavors and sights

A Day In The Life

We have choice time as a way to ease into the day at Harmony

Then we have a Large Group circle time to greet the day together and hear a story/play a game/dance/learn a new work/have a fun lesson.

From there we break off into our small groups (Cupcakes, Puffer Fish, Leapfrogs, and Shooting Stars). This is the time for more in depth work and specific goals can be worked on in a smaller setting.

After small groups is choice time to choose work and learn with all the friends.

Then we move onto a short circle time and outside time. We get to move our muscles and discover our world outside.

Then we get to come in, wash our hands, and have LUNCH!

Then back outside to burn off some energy and get ready for rest.

After rest time we have a small choice time to give our friends that are napping a chance to wake up.

At the end of the day we get to have our special groups of Yoga, Spanish, and Science before heading outside to wait for pick up!

Thanks for spending a day with us!

Community Helpers At Home

We are having so much fun learning about Community Helpers and Health and Safety! We have done so many fun activities and we thought we would share some of our favorites that you could recreate at home!

Making a healthy stoplight snack is fun and tasty! We created this one with celery spread with peanut butter and red, yellow, and green apple pieces for the lights. You could easily sub cream cheese and colored bell peppers or you could make a stoplight treat with graham crackers with your favorite spread and red, yellow, and green m&ms.
One stop light completed

Construction is always a hit with preschoolers! We created these infrastructures with toothpics and grapes. Then we added "walls" of crackers with "glue" peanutbutter. The best part was eating our creations!

Peanut butter is a little messy!

YUM!!

One fun activity planned for next week (so no pictures yet!) is working with pipes. Seeing how things work is so much fun for children (and adults). Talking about plumbing with our little people makes them excited to see how pipes direct water. Using pool noodles and tape, you and your child(ren) can put together a network of "pipes" and send cups or buckets of water through to see where the water goes.

Your children have learned so much about fire safety. Talk with them and create a fire action plan. Then have a home fire drill and practice the plan you made with them!
These friends are learning fire safety during a visit with smokey the bear!

These books are also fun to read and really help our children learn about community helpers and how to stay healthy and safe.
