Madagascar Cockroaches

This week Mrs. Melissa brought in her son's Madagascar hissing cockroaches for the children to explore.  We got to feel, hold, and listen as they made their hissing sounds.  It was great!

This was our last week of Africa theme.  Next week we start rainforest theme.  Remember theme related show and tell is on Mondays and Tuesdays!

African Visitors

On Friday, January 18th Mrs. Brooke's friends (one born in Ghana and the other volunteered in an orphanage in Kenya) visited Harmony.  They brought drums, kente clothe and clothes, and lots of pictures.  The children especially enjoyed their story/picture of sitting on a live crocodile!

Happy New Year and welcome back to school!  Our first theme of 2013 is Africa.  We've changed out all the work in the school to keep it fresh and fun.

Sensory table filled with sand and animals that live in Africa.

Puzzle map of the world.

Writing center using tracing paper to draw a giraffe.

African mask and dress up clothes.

A safari jeep to search for animals.

Busy boys at the art center!

This brand new work of African animals and land/trees was purchased with our bunny bucks from Grand Rabbits Toy Store.  Thank you to the families who shopped at Grand Rabbits and mentioned Harmony Preschool at check out.

Winter Holiday Celebrations and Here Comes Santa!

The week before winter break was full of celebrations!  On Monday we celebrated Hanukkah by lighting our menorah, cooking potato latkes, and playing dreidel game.   Tuesday we took delight in our Christmas in Mexico party by making poinsettias, playing musical instruments along with Mexican fiesta music, and busted open a pinata.  Wednesday we celebrated Kwanzaa by making friendship bracelets, drawing pictures after thinking about what we want to be when we grow up, and worked together to make a paper chain.  Thursday we came together for a Christmas in Italy party.  A parent volunteer brought in her capitelli pasta maker and we made our own snack, delicious!  We also created kitchen witches and beaded pasta necklaces.  Theses are just a few of the activities enjoyed during each party.

The most exciting part of the whole week was Friday morning, when Santa stopped by for a visit!

Hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season and week you in 2013!
